Chapter 15: Glass

We didn't make it to the bedroom.

The limousine let us out on Chase Street at eleven.

We took the roof stairs two at a time, laughing and kissing and bumping into walls.

The penthouse was dark except for the city.

The whole west wall was glass, and Baltimore lay across it in a spill of gold.

He pushed the door shut behind us and pressed me against the nearest pane.

The cold went right through the silk.

"Say it," he said.

"Say what?"

"What you did tonight."

I drew a breath that shook.

"I stood up," I said. "In front of every one of them."

"Again."

"I stood up and I didn't shake."

"You didn't shake once."

His hands found the zipper at my back and drew it down inch by inch.

The black dress slid off my shoulders and pooled at my feet.

I stood in my heels and nothing else, with my palms flat on the glass.

His mouth landed on my shoulder.

His hands came around and cupped my breasts, thumbs dragging over the nipples, and I moaned and arched into his palms.

"Every man in that room wanted to look at you," he said into my neck. "And I was the only one who got to take you home."

"Show me."

"I intend to."
