Nicollet Hall was empty by ten on Friday night.
The chairs were still on the stage, set for the gala, and one work light burned over the podium.
Julius had asked Roderick to meet him there.
Roderick had said yes too quickly, and Julius had noticed.
"Stay in the third row," Julius told me. "Please."
"I'll stay where I can hear."
I sat in the dark with my coat on and my phone in the pocket, recording.
Agatha had put it there herself.
"Press the red circle," she had said. "Then be a boring woman in a coat."
Roderick came down the center aisle at five past ten.
He wore the same charcoal suit and carried a leather folder under his arm.
He looked at the empty hall.
"Friend," he said, to Julius. "You wanted a quiet word."
"You took the originals out of records at six in the morning."
