Chapter 23: Six-Oh-Five
I had twenty-four minutes.
I put Bridger on the speaker at the terminal, and Zoe's voice came in behind his, a floor away, with a dozen phones ringing.
"What do you need?" Zoe said.
"Every store you have that's still on Hallett's rail," I said. "The ones midway through the move."
"Two hundred and six," Bridger said.
"Read me the list."
He read it fast, in his flat Indiana voice, and I copied the names onto a legal pad in the order they came.
The head of operations pulled a chair up beside me and didn't ask what I was doing.
"The flaw doesn't care who's pulling," I said, so the room could hear. "At 6:05, every store on this side of the door pushes at once. The door locks."
"So how do you stop it?" the CFO asked.
"I can't."
"You can't?"
"I can't fix the door in twenty minutes. I can take Kostas's stores out of the crowd before it forms."
