Chapter 17: Weston Falls
Dev reached the altar and put one hand over Weston's fingers.
He did not squeeze.
He simply lifted the hand off Imogen's arm.
"Let go of her, Wes," he said.
Weston let go.
Imogen stumbled back into her father, who caught her.
Weston stared up at his brother, who had two inches on him and no cap, and I saw the thirteen-year-old again.
Then the thirteen-year-old curdled into something worse.
"You don't get to come back," Weston said, loud enough for the balcony.
"You don't get to stand there like a saint.
"You left.
"I stayed, I did everything she asked, I married who she picked, and you walk in with a suit from a charity bin."
"It's from my colonel."
"Your what?"
"Never mind," Dev said. "Say the rest."
"There's no rest.
"That florist is a thief, and that girl is a liar, and you are all being played."
"Weston," Imogen said, in a voice that carried like a bell.
"I told them about the necklace.
"Do you want to tell them about the van?"
