I wasn't on the board, so I went as Gran's handbag.
"You'll sit by the wall," she told me in the elevator. "You won't speak. And you won't do a voice."
"What if someone deserves a voice?"
"Then you'll write it down and do it for me later."
The boardroom was on the twelfth floor, the only finished room on it.
Long table. Nine leather chairs. Portraits of dead Northcotts in gold frames, all of them looking disappointed.
Gran took the head.
Benedict sat at her right hand in his charcoal suit, his steel watch, his straight mouth.
Edmund sat at the far end with a leather folder and a fresh pocket square.
Benedict's aunt sat next to him and didn't look at me.

He opened the folder.
"In five weeks, the CEO of this company has done the following."
He read it.
"He has made a spectacle of his private life in front of staff and family."
"He offered to give away the chairmanship of this company to keep his wife."
