Chapter 4: Rematch
"Contract's signed," Lu said. "Scrim's won. So the next bet is mine."
He turned the lock on Ji's door himself, and the click was loud in the third-floor quiet.
Ji sat in the desk chair with a laptop open on his knees, in the same grey T-shirt he had worn at breakfast.
He looked up over the screen without hurrying.
"We never agreed to a second bet."
"We never agreed not to." Lu crossed the room. "Close it."
"What are the terms?"
"You don't talk."
Ji's eyebrows went up a millimeter.
"You call every game," Lu said.
"You've been calling mine all day. Rotate, ward, back, farm. I heard you through the wall."
He pointed a finger at Ji's chest.
"Tonight you don't give one order. Not one word that tells me what to do."
"And if I break it?"
"Then I stop, and you finish yourself on your own."
Ji looked at him for a long beat.
Then he shut the laptop and set it on the desk.
"Fine."
Lu's pulse stumbled.
He had not thought it would be that easy, and for a second he didn't know where to put his hands.
So he put them on Ji's knees.
He knelt on the floor between them, and the carpet was thin and rough under his kneecaps.
Ji's thighs were hard through the sleep pants, warm, and a little tense.
"You're tired," Lu said.
"Don't."
"You haven't slept since Tuesday."
"That's an order, too, Lantern."
"It's an observation."
He leaned in and pressed his cheek against the inside of Ji's knee for a moment, without meaning to.
Ji went still.
He did not say a word.
That was somehow worse than if he had.
Lu kissed up the line of Ji's thigh through the cloth, slow, and felt the muscle jump under his mouth.
He got his fingers under the waistband and glanced up.
"Lift."
Ji lifted his hips.
The pants and the shorts came down together, past his knees.
Lu got his first long look at the man he'd lost to for five seasons.
Ji was already hard.
He was long and thick and dark at the head, with a vein ridged down the underside.
He curved up toward his own stomach.
Lu's mouth watered.
"Captain," he said. "You're very quiet."
Ji's jaw flexed.
Lu took him in his fist, a slow tug from the base to the tip, and a clear bead welled up at the slit.
He licked it off.
Ji's hands closed on the arms of the chair.
"That's good," Lu said, softly, to nobody. "That's a good start."
He ran his tongue along the underside, base to head, once.
Then again, with the flat of it, wet and slow.
Ji's breath went out through his nose.
His thigh trembled against Lu's shoulder.
"You can say my name," Lu said. "That's not an order, so it's allowed."
