Chapter 7: Both of Us

Lu had lost the scrim on purpose, and Ji knew it.

He knew because Lu had walked a perfect champion into a perfect trap at minute sixteen, and then smirked at the camera.

"Scouting," Ji had said that morning, when Lu asked again how he knew about the breath.

"You were sixteen and you were going to beat me. I watch whoever's going to beat me."

Lu had let it go.

He told himself it was a good answer.

Now it was half past midnight, and the third floor was dark except for one lamp.

Ji stood behind him in the middle of the room with both hands on Lu's hips.

"Winner picks," Ji said, low, against his ear.

"You won."

"Because you let me."

"Prove it, Captain."

Ji's mouth touched the side of his neck, right under the ear.

It was not a bite.

It was warm and slow, and every hair on Lu's arms stood up.

"Desk," Ji said. "Hands flat. Don't turn around."

"I don't take orders from you."

"You took one from me on Tuesday."

"That was the duel."

"So this is the rematch." Ji's fingers slid under the hem of his shirt and stroked his stomach. "Go on. Say no."

Lu opened his mouth.

He didn't say it.

He walked over to the desk, because he wanted to and not because he'd been told.

His own face looked back at him from the dark monitor, flushed and wide-eyed.

He put both palms on the wood.

Behind him, Ji's belt buckle clinked.
