Chapter 19: Everything
"Everything," Percival said, and laughed, low and scratchy. "That is a great deal of material."
"Three hundred years."
"Three hundred and a little."
"Then we'd better get started."
I stood up and pulled him to his feet by both hands.
The firelight lay across his chest and the long pale scar below his ribs.
The faint red marks from the bedposts still showed on his wrists.
I led him to the narrow inn bed, with its patchwork quilt, and pushed him down on his back.
"One question at a time," I said. "You answer each one, and I decide what happens between."
"Between?"
"Between the answers."
I knelt beside his shoulder.
I took his cock in my fist, and it twitched, and he caught his breath.
"First question. Where were you born?"
"Wethersfield, in Connecticut." His voice was already rough. "In seventeen twenty-six, in a house by a river. The river flooded most springs."
"Good."
I bent and ran my tongue slowly up the underside.
"Second question. What is the first thing you remember?"
"Cold water."
His hips lifted.
"My feet in the river."
"A man holding me up by the back of my shirt, laughing, and the sun in my eyes."
"Who was he?"
"I never learned. He did not stay."
I took the head into my mouth, sucked once, and let go.
He groaned.
"Third question. What did you do for the first king you served?"
"I was his courier," Percival said, "and then his clerk, and then I learned that I could talk men out of wars."
"It was the one thing I had talent for."
"Why that?"
"Because I had seen what wars cost."
I swung a knee over his chest.
I turned, facing his feet, and settled my hips over his face.
His breath hit my wet skin.
