Joelle's duffel bag sat packed beside our kitchen door, four days before her flight.
She had tied her striped sun hat to the handle.
Tate noticed it with his coffee halfway to his mouth.
"It's Tuesday," he said.
"I like to be ready," Joelle answered.
Hallie knocked once and came in with a single page headed Overflow.
She stepped around the duffel bag with her clipboard held high.
"Since Becca has taken Tate's lines, I need Joelle for the rest," she said.
"There are nine tasks. Cones, the coffee urn, forty chairs, cake pickup, and the flag at the road."
Joelle took a slow sip from her mug.
"My flight leaves Saturday at noon," she said. "I'm gone for eight days on the Oregon coast."
"The dinner starts at five, Joelle."
"By five I'll be over Utah."
"You could move your flight," Hallie said.
"It cost two hundred ten dollars, and it doesn't refund."
