He Let Our Daughter Die, I Became A Tycoon's Bride novel · Chapter 4 of 24

Chapter 4: My Fiancee

The rotor blades kept turning behind me.

The gurney had stopped at the edge of the helipad, and the specialists stood around it with their hands on the rails.

Nobody moved.

"Ma'am, step away from the child," the first officer said.

"Officer, she's my daughter."

"The father says you're taking her without his consent."

"The father didn't come to the hospital until an hour after the crash," I said. "Look at my phone."

I held it out.

The officer took it and scrolled down my call log.

It was a long red column of the same name.

Neil. Neil. Neil. Neil.

Thirty-one calls, and not one of them answered.

"I called him the whole time," I said. "He let every call ring. Then he ordered the blood bank to send every unit of her blood type to his secretary, and he ordered the specialists to go to her too."

"That's a lie," Neil said.

The second officer turned to the surgeon, who had come up the stairs behind us.

"Doctor, is this child safe to move?"

"She isn't safe to stay," the surgeon said. "She needs pediatric intensive care. This hospital doesn't have it. I'm the treating physician, and I've ordered the transfer."

"Her mother is with her, and she signed the consent," said a nurse at the back.

"The blood bank manager is downstairs with the signed order," said another.

The officer lifted his eyes to Neil.

"Sir, is that true? You ordered the blood sent elsewhere?"

Neil straightened his jacket.

"My secretary was ill."

"While your daughter was bleeding."

"Kirsten's life is not worth less than..."

He stopped.

I watched him hear himself.
