His Cat Stole My Underwear, and He Kept Every Pair novel · Chapter 10 of 24

Chapter 10: Gerald

"Here," Teddy said softly. "Your underwear is here."

Magnus stared at him.

"I know," Teddy said. "I mean, I don't know what the rest was going to be. But I've seen the basket. I've been in the basket. I'm in your dining room more than you are. So I think I can finish the sentence for you."

"That's not the rest."

"Then what's the rest?"

Magnus's mouth worked.

"It's not underwear," he said, hoarsely.

"No?"

"It's a lot more than that."

He looked at Teddy's hand, still on his neck.

He looked at the leaf lying in the wet concrete between their knees.

"Teddy," he said, "hold still."

"I'm holding."

"I'm going to close the incision."

It took Teddy half a second to understand the line, and in that half second his whole body lit up.

Then Magnus's hand slid into his hair and his mouth came down.

It was not a careful kiss.

Teddy had expected careful, from a man who pressed and folded a month of theft into thirds.

What he got was a kiss like a door that had been shut a long time and then broken open by weather.

It was warm and hungry and clumsy at the edges, and Magnus made a low sound against his mouth.

Teddy grabbed the front of his drenched jacket and held on.

He kissed back with everything he had, and he had a great deal, he had been saving it up since a cold Wednesday two years ago.

Magnus's hand on the back of his head was shaking.

Teddy did not tell himself it was the cold.

They broke apart for air, foreheads together.

Magnus's breath came shaky and fast against his lips.

"I've wanted to do that for two years," said Magnus.

"That was incredible."

"I'm not finished."

"Keep going," Teddy said, "even if it kills me."
