"Point of order," the older woman with the reading glasses said.
"The chair has called the question," Leland said.
"The chair has just heard a clause read that may end his tenure," she said.
"I would like to hear from the shareholder before we vote."
"She has no vote at this table."
"She has forty-one percent of the reason any of us is paid," the gray-haired man in the corner said.
Leland's pen clicked once.
"Two minutes," he said.
I did not take the two minutes.
I stood where I was, beside the open safe, with the cigar box at my elbow.
I looked at each director in turn, and I let them look back.
"I'm not going to ask you to like me," I said.
"Most of you were told I was bought, and some of you believed it, because it was a simple story."
