The frost had come down hard on the third Saturday of October, and the grass in St. Casimir's cemetery crunched under my boots.
I walked the last rows alone.
The three of them stayed back at the truck with the engine running.

"I thought I'd come and tell you myself. You'd have found out anyway. You always did."
