Chapter 20: Not Careful

Rafe's POV

She stood in my doorway in her Sunday dress with her shoes in her hand.

I had imagined that for six years, and in none of the versions had she looked so unsure.

"You can still go back," I said.

"I know where the beds are."

"Margot."

"Shut the door, Rafe."

I shut it, and I turned the lock, and she laughed softly.

"You locked it."

"Three children and a dog."

She dropped her shoes on the rug and crossed the room.

Her hands came up to my collar, and she undid my tie, and I stood still and let her.

I had been careful with her all week.

She seemed to know it.

"Stop being careful," she said into my mouth. "I'm not made of glass."

That was the end of it.

I kissed her hard enough to walk her backward, and her shoulders met the bedpost, and she gasped and pulled me closer.

I found the zipper at her back and dragged it down.

The dress fell around her feet, and she stepped out of it in her underwear, and I stopped breathing.

"Look at you," I said.

"You've said that."

"I'll say it again."

I turned her around, gently, to face the bed, and pressed my chest to her back.

I kissed the side of her neck and slid my hands up her stomach to her breasts.

She pushed back against my cock through my trousers.

"Rafe."

"What do you want?"

"I want you to fuck me."

"How?"

She turned her head, and her eyes were black.

"Any way you like. Just don't be gentle about it."

I unhooked her bra and let it fall.
