Chapter 20: Three Days
I drove home Friday night with the windows down and the radio off.
It was eleven-forty when I parked behind the Okerlund garage.
The boathouse stood dark at the back of the lot, with one lit window at the top.
I climbed the ladder.
Ansel sat on the cot in his shorts with his elbows on his knees.
He looked up.
He didn't say anything.
"I don't know how to say it yet," I said. "I'm working on it."
"Okay."
"But you drove away and I stood in a parking lot, and I never want to stand in one again."
"Okay."
"Stop saying okay."
"Come here," he said.
I crossed the loft in three steps and he pulled me into his lap, and the cot made its goose noise, and we both started laughing against each other's necks.
It turned into kissing before the laugh was finished.
Slow, then not slow.
His hands went up the back of my shirt.
I pulled it off and tossed it at the oars.
"Lie down," I said.
"Yes, boss."
"Don't call me boss."
"Lie down, Lottie."
"Better."
He lay back on the cot.
I kicked off my shorts, climbed over him the wrong way around, with my knees on either side of his head, and got my mouth on his cock before he could say a word.
