Chapter 9: The Heat
Rowena had stood at the border stones until sunset.
Then she had turned and walked back toward Ashfall, and Tavish had doubled the watch on the ridge.
The heat hit me at midnight.
I woke in his bed sweating, with the sheet kicked off and my thighs slick, and a wanting so sharp it hurt.
My wolf paced and whined.
Every nerve I owned was awake, and all of them wanted one thing.
"Tavish."
He was beside me before I finished saying it.
He rolled over, his eyes already glowing pale in the dark, and put his palm on my forehead.
"You're burning."
"It isn't a fever."
"No." He breathed in, and his whole body went rigid. "It's the moon-heat. Your first."
"It hurts."
"I know."
"Make it stop."
"I'll make it better," he said. "I won't make it stop. Not until you're done."
I grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him down.
I kissed him, with my teeth and my tongue, and my hands clawed at his shoulders.
He kissed me back as though he had been waiting for it all his life.
His hand slid between my thighs and found me slick and swollen and hot to the touch.
"Fuck," he breathed.
"Tell me."
"You're so ready it's unreal."
He pushed two fingers in without warning, and I bucked and moaned his name.
He pumped them in me hard and fast and pressed the heel of his hand on my clit.
The first orgasm of the night hit me in under a minute, a sharp bright crack that left me gasping.
It did not touch the need.
It only sharpened it.
"More," I said. "I need all of you."
He pulled his fingers out and licked them clean with his eyes on mine.
