By noon, the map had eighty thousand visits and the TV stations had all called the union.

By one, the mayor's office announced a press conference.

Jens watched it on his phone at the kitchen table, with me reading over his shoulder.

Tova was home sick on the couch under a blanket.

City hall rotunda. Marble, flags, the big brass seal on the floor.

Karin stood at the podium in her charcoal suit and red scarf.

Marit stood one step behind her in the cream coat, holding a folder, the way she always does.

Anders was on Karin's other side.

He'd never come to a press conference in his life.

"Our city has faced a wave of misinformation this week," Karin said.

She sounded sad about it.

"A website built by a city employee on leave has spread false claims about our streets, and frightened residents in the middle of a storm."

I put my hand flat on the table.

"I want to be compassionate," Karin said. "Signe Sandvik is a talented engineer. She's also going through a very public divorce from my son, and she is pregnant, and under great strain. She has been unstable for some time."

Jens's jaw went tight under his beard.

"She has left her marriage for a city employee who was suspended this week for spreading these same claims. The man she left her husband for."

A reporter asked about the garage video.

The one the union had posted the night before, of "Signe" in Marit's car.
