Chapter 19: Lobby

Porter hadn't slept.

His eyes were red, and there was a smear of somebody's lipstick on the collar of his white shirt.

Probably his mother's.

He came across the lobby with both hands up.

"Colette. Babe. Don't run."

I didn't run.

I put my bag down on the marble floor and waited.

He took out his phone and held it up to show me a map.

There was a little blue dot on it, sitting on this hotel.

He talked slowly and loudly, shaping every word.

"You. Still. Share. Your. Location. With. Me."

He smiled.

I took out my own phone in front of him.

I found his name in the settings and turned it off.

The blue dot went grey on his screen.

His smile slipped.

Then he started typing on his phone, fast, and turned it to me.

He'd never once in thirteen months bothered to type to me.

Now he typed a whole paragraph.

I know how it looks. Allegra is sick. She's been obsessed with me since London. She threw herself at me and I made one mistake, a few weeks, that's all.
