Chapter 10: Door Open

On Thursday I was off, and by three in the morning I was lying in my twin bed.

The door was wide open, and my hand was between my legs.

I was not hiding.

He had made that the rule, so I was following it.

The overhead light was off, but the streetlamp in the alley fell through the cedar slats in thin stripes across the sheet.

I had pushed the sheet to my knees.

"Don't stop," Jakob said.

"I wasn't going to."

"Slower."

I slowed the circle, and the buzz sank lower.

My hips rose off the mattress.

"Show me how you do it when I'm not here."

"No." His voice was rough. "I'm going to sit in that chair, and you're going to show me."

He pulled out my desk chair and turned it to face the bed, and sat in it with his knees apart.

He did not touch himself.

He rested his hands on his thighs and watched me, steady and still, with all his attention.

No one had ever watched me that way.

I felt it everywhere on my skin.

I let my knees fall wide.

I put the toy against my clit, pressed in, and slid two fingers inside myself.
