Chapter 28: The Last Night of the Term

The suite was exactly as she remembered it, purple carpet and chandelier, and a single lamp lit by the window.

Jasper stood beside it in his shirtsleeves. There was no gray folder on the desk.

Willa shut the door behind her and put a key card on the table.

It was the card he had never asked her to return. She had carried it for ninety days.

"Day ninety," she said.

"Yes."

"The rule says I walk."

"The rule says that."

He did not move, and his hands were at his sides.

"I fly to Drego at six," she said. "My knives are still in a locker in the hotel kitchen, and my room has a lease to close. I'm back on the fourteenth."

"That's nine days."

"It's a return ticket." She took off her coat and laid it over the chair. "So tonight isn't me leaving. Tonight is the last night of the term."

His throat moved.

"And you want to spend it here."

"I want you to use it, Mr. Quarles."

He crossed the carpet.

His mouth came down on hers, hard, and she opened for him. His hand slid into her hair and held her head back.

She pulled his shirt out of his trousers and got her palms flat against his skin.

He was hot and he was shaking.

"Take this off," he said, and tugged at her dress.

"You do it."

He found the zip and dragged it down her back. The dress fell to her feet, and she stood in her underwear with the lamp behind her.

"God, Willa."

"Look all you like. It's the last night."

"Don't say that."

"It's the rule."

He growled and picked her up.

He laid her across the edge of the bed with her legs hanging off, and he dropped to his knees on the carpet.

She understood, and her stomach clenched.

"I've wanted to for ninety days," he said.

He hooked his fingers in her underwear and pulled it down her legs.

"Open."

She opened her thighs.

He put his mouth on her pussy.

The first stroke of his tongue was slow and flat, up the whole length of her, and she cried out.
