Chapter 20: The Board
Bianca's father walked into the Ryerson boardroom on Monday at nine.
He was a lean man in his sixties with white hair and her blue eyes, and he did not look at Margaret.
Bianca followed two paces behind him in a gray suit, with a leather folder held to her chest.
She did not look at me either.
"Sir," Margaret said, from the head of the table. "You've brought a guest."
"My daughter has a statement for the record," he said. "She has been wronged in this company's name."
"Then she will be heard," Margaret said. "After the motion."
The man with the gray goatee, who sat on the lender's behalf, read the motion in a voice that wanted to be sorry.
"That Margaret Ryerson be removed as chair of the board, owing to impaired judgment in a matter concerning her grandson."
"Impaired by what?" Margaret asked.
