Chapter 11: Month Five
Ji-seok did not touch him for six days.
He read the message in the dark, with the phone's light on his face, and Si-woo watched his expression go from sleepy to blank.
Ji-seok put the phone face down on the nightstand.
"Work," he said.
"At two in the morning?"
"The Board."
He turned over, lay with his back to Si-woo, and did not hold him.
Si-woo lay awake until the sky went grey.
The next evening Ji-seok met him at the door with a cup of tea and a smile that was wrong.
He did not kiss him.
Si-woo took his forearms for the ten minutes the manual asked.
Ji-seok stood so still that Si-woo felt every muscle in him vibrate.
At the end of the ten minutes he stepped back.
"That's enough," he said.
"It's usually forty."
"I'm not flaring. You should rest."
"Ji-seok."
"I have to make a call."
He went into the study and closed the door.
Si-woo stood in the kitchen with his hands still out in front of him, in the shape of the arms he had been holding.
