Chapter 17: Reporters
Seo-yeon put her hand flat on his chest.
He woke, eyes open.
She turned the screen toward him.
He looked at the photo of the reporters outside the gate for a moment.
Then he was up and pulling on his trousers, and his voice was very calm, and his hands weren't.
"First flight's at seven," he said.
At ten-fifteen they came up the hill in Bukchon in a taxi with the windows down.
The lane was barely wide enough for a car.
Old hanok roofs on both sides, tiles curving up at the corners, tourists in rented hanbok taking photos of the view.
Halfway up, a crowd had blocked it completely.
Nine reporters now. Two camera crews on folding stools. A man selling coffee from a cart, doing very good business.
All of them pointed at one small wooden gate with a brass knocker shaped like a fish.
"Is there a back way?" Seo-yeon asked.
"Through the neighbour's," Do-hyun said. "She has a gate in the wall for the cat."
"For the cat?"
"It's a big gate. It's a big cat." He paid the driver. "Go round by the lane behind. The house with the blue door."
"Tell the grandmother you're with me."
"And you?"
