Chapter 7: The Roof Key
The roof hatch groaned open, and cold wet air fell on my face.
Lena went up the ladder first, and she reached down and pulled me through.
It was nine at night, and a thin drizzle was falling on the tar paper.
All of Portland spread out below us, orange and wet, with the bridges lit in the distance.
I wore my long wool coat over a thin sweater dress, and nothing under the dress at all.
Lena had told me to dress the way I wanted to be undressed.
She shut the hatch behind us and stood in her heavy canvas coat with the collar turned up.
"Come here," she said.
I crossed the roof to her, my boots slapping on the puddles.
She opened her coat and drew me inside it, against her chest, and wrapped the canvas around both of us.
It smelled like sawdust and rain and her.
"Cold?" she said.
"Not anymore."
Her hands went down my back to my hips, and then lower.
She found the hem of my dress and pushed it up, and her palms closed on my bare ass.
She stopped.
"You have nothing on."
"You said to dress how I wanted to be undressed."
"I didn't think you'd take it that far." Her voice had dropped to a growl. "Turn around."
I turned.
She walked me forward, one hand on my waist.
My thighs met the low brick wall at the edge of the roof.
The wall came up to my hips, rough and wet under my palms.
Beyond it was a drop of four stories and the glowing street.
"Hands on the brick."
I put them there.
"Bend over."
I bent, and my breasts pressed against my own coat.
I looked down at the dark street with my heart in my throat.
Lena stood behind me, and she flipped the back of my coat and dress up over my waist.
The cold air hit my wet skin, and I gasped.
"Lena."
"Nobody can see us.
We're above every window on this street."
Her hand smoothed over my ass.
"And if they could, they'd see you."
I moaned.
She stepped closer, and her coat closed around us both again.
Her fingers slid between my legs from behind, and I felt how wet I was.
"Already like this," she said. "On a roof, in the rain."
"Because of you."
"Because of the rule."
"Which one?"
"Take your pick."
She stroked me from behind, long slow strokes, finding my clit and circling it.
The rain tapped on my back and on the brick.
I rested my forehead on my hands.
"You can be loud up here," Lena said against my ear. "There's no quiet hour on a roof."
"Good."
I let it out then, every sound I had swallowed the night before.
I groaned and gasped and cried her name into the wind, and she growled approval and gave me more.
