Chapter 16: The Seven-Ten Ferry

Miles sent the video to the fire investigator before he put his phone down.

"She'll want Dean in an interview room by tomorrow," he said.

"Then we move at first light."

I took out my own phone.

Brooke had changed the password on Harbor Girl the day after I logged in, and I couldn't get back into the account.

My father stood in the wheelhouse door with his arms crossed and his captain's cap pushed back.

"You know she'll come aboard," Max said.

"I'm counting on it."

"Then I'm not leaving the deck."

He didn't.

The seven-ten ferry was full of commuters in rain jackets, holding coffee and staring at their phones.

By seven-twenty, half of them had stopped scrolling.

A woman near the rail looked from the screen to me and back.
