Chapter 10: First Night

His mouth was on my throat, and I forgot how to be careful.

I arched into him.

His hand found the hem of the T-shirt I had taken from the closet and dragged it up over my head.

"Lights," he said, rough. "I want to see you."

"There's no power."

"Then lightning."

The sky obliged, white and brief, and for one flash I saw him kneeling over me with his shirt open and his eyes black.

He looked at my breasts and swore under his breath.

"Kellan."

"Tell me what you want," he said. "Say it. I've been listening to you say what you don't want all week."

His thoughts came in a rush, too fast for sentences.

Her skin. Her mouth. Let her say it. I'll give her anything she says.

It was not pity.

It had never been pity.

Every kind thing I had heard in his head since the lawn had been wanting, held on a very short leash.

"I want your hands," I said. "I want your mouth. I want all of it, and I don't want you careful."

"Good," Kellan said, and he put his mouth on my breast.

I cried out.

He sucked hard, then gentle, then hard again, and his hand slid down my stomach and under the waistband of my shorts.

He found me wet.

He made a low sound against my skin that I felt in my knees.

"Fuck, Leonie."

"Yes."

"You've been like this since the dock."

"Since the lawn," I said, and he laughed against my ribs.

He stripped me with both hands, my shorts, the rest, and tossed them off the bed.

I lay open in the dark with the rain pounding the roof, and his hands settled on my thighs and parted them.

"Only when someone is watching," he said, very softly, and I could hear the grin in it.
