Chapter 9: His Room

He left the lamp on.

That was the first thing I noticed.

The other nights, he had taken me fast and hungry, once on his bed and once against a wall, and he had never slowed down to look.

Now he stood at the foot of his bed in the full yellow light and looked at me as though he meant to be seen back.

"Take off the robe," he said.

My fingers weren't steady on the belt.

The phone slid out of the pocket as the robe fell, and I caught it against my hip and dropped it into the folds on the floor with my foot.

He didn't look down.

He looked at me.

I stood in a thin white nightgown, and I felt it all the way to my knees.

"Come here."

I crossed the carpet.

He sat on the edge of the bed in his black shirt, and drew me between his knees by the hips.

His hands went up the backs of my thighs, under the cotton, slowly.

"I took you against a wall," he said. "I took you like I was starving."

"I liked it."

"I know you did." His thumbs found the creases of my hips. "Tonight I want to do it right."

He pulled the nightgown over my head and dropped it.

I stood naked in front of him, in a lit room, and nobody had ever looked at me.

His gaze went from my collarbone to my breasts to the soft dip of my belly.

"Beautiful," he said, and it sounded like a confession.

He put his mouth on my nipple.

I gasped and my hands went into his hair.

His tongue circled, slow, and then his teeth closed gently, and a bolt of heat shot straight between my legs.

"Cesare."

He moved to the other breast, and his hand slid down my stomach and cupped me.

He found me soaked.

"Look at that," he murmured. "You want me."

"I always want you."

"Say it to my face."

"I want you." My knees were trembling. "I want you inside me. Please."
