Chapter 12: Second Brother

I looked up at him from the bunk.

"No," I said.

His eyes closed.

"I'm not going to tell you to keep it," I said. "And I'm not going to tell you to break it. You're a grown man, Titus. You decide."

"That's not fair."

"Nothing about this is fair."

He opened his eyes. They were gold already.

"Nero told him to his face," he said.

"He did."

"I'll do the same. Sunday. At the table." His voice dropped. "If you want me. Not your wolf. You."

I stood up.

The on-call room was so small that standing put me right in front of him.

"I wanted you to stop calling me that name for two years," I said.

"Then you stopped, and I wanted you to look at me. Then you looked at me. In the supply room."

"I remember."

"I've wanted you since the supply room, Titus. Me. Not the trial."

He closed his eyes for a beat, all that tension breaking at once.

"Say yes, then," he said. "So I hear it."

"Yes."

He came off the door.

I stood up.

The on-call room was so small that standing put me right in front of him.

"I wanted you to stop calling me that name for two years," I said.

"Then you stopped, and I wanted you to look at me. Then you looked at me. In the supply room."

"I remember."

"I've wanted you since the supply room, Titus. Me. Not the trial."

He let out a breath like he'd been holding it for three days.

"Say yes, then," he said. "So I hear it."

"Yes."

He came off the door.

He didn't crash into me.

He came slow, deliberate, like a man crossing a line he'd drawn on the floor himself.

His hands landed on the steel sink, one on either side of me.

He caged me there without touching me.

I could smell him, exhaustion and antiseptic and the sharp green of his wolf.

"You said yes," he said.

"I said yes."

His gray eyes had gone all the way gold.

"Then you're going to tell me exactly what you want. Out loud."

My breath caught.

"And I'm going to make you repeat it."

The power in his voice curled through me, low and hot.

"You're still my boss," I said.

"Not in here."

"That's not true."

"It's true in here. Say what you want, Tenley."

I lifted my chin.

"I want you to kiss me."

He made a sound, low and rough.

"Since the supply room, you said."

"Since the supply room."

"Say it again."

"I've wanted you since the supply room."

His hand came up.

I thought he would touch my face.

He caught my chin instead, two fingers tipping it higher, and held me there.

"Then you should have let me know."

"I tried. You were too busy being a bastard."

"I was afraid of you."

I blinked.

"Of me?"

"Of this." He dropped his hand to the silver pendant at my chest, and his thumb traced the omega mark. "Of what it would mean if I started and couldn't stop."

His fingers closed around the pendant.

"So I was a bastard instead."

"Okay," I said.

"Okay?"

"I'll allow it. You were a bastard because you wanted me."

"Don't forgive me that fast."

"I haven't forgiven you at all. I just want you to kiss me."

The gold in his eyes flared.

"Now," I said.

He kissed me.

It was not a careful first kiss.

It was a starving man's kiss, and I opened for him instantly.

He groaned into my mouth, and the sound went straight to my pussy.

His free hand found my hip and pulled me hard against him.

I could feel him through both our scrubs.

He was already hard.

I made a noise I didn't mean to make.

He swallowed it.

Then he pulled back, breathing hard.

"Quiet," he said. "The ward will hear you."

"Then don't make me make noise."

He laughed, and it came out ragged.

"That's the whole point, Tenley."

His hands found the hem of my scrub top.

He didn't pull it off.

He waited.

I lifted my arms.
