Chapter 16: Held Down
"I want you to hold me down," I said.
I said it standing in the bedroom doorway with my arms wrapped around myself.
Lorcan looked up from the edge of the bed.
He had been unlacing his boots, and he stopped with one lace in his fingers.
"Say that again," he said, very quietly.
"I decide everything. All day. Every word, every yes, every no, who stays and who goes."
"I know."
"I want one night when I don't decide how it goes."
"You'd still decide."
"I'd decide to let you."
His eyes went gold.
"And if you say no."
"Then you stop. You know you stop."
"I'll stop," he said. "I'd stop if the house were burning."
"I know. That's why I can ask."
He set the boot down.
He stood, and the room seemed to get smaller around him.
"Come here," he said.
It was the first time he had said it to me in that voice.
It was not a request.
It slid down my spine and settled low in my belly, warm and heavy.
I crossed the floor.
He took my chin in his fingers and tilted my face up.
"You'll do as I say tonight," he said. "Won't you."
"Yes."
"Yes, what?"
"Yes, Lorcan."
"Good."
He kissed me.
It was a hard, slow, claiming kiss, his hand fisted in my hair, and I made a helpless noise into his mouth.
He walked me backward until the backs of my knees hit the mattress.
"Lie down."
I lay down.
"Arms over your head."
I put them there.
He knelt over me with a knee on either side of my hips and caught both my wrists in one big hand.
