Chapter 7: Abram's POV
Abram's POV
She led me up two flights of stairs by the wrist, to my own room, and shut the door behind us with her heel.
Garnet had gone to bed without a word.
Taras and Anders had been sent off hours ago.
I stood in the middle of my bedroom in flannel pants with every muscle drawn tight, and Katja stood in front of me with her sweater in her fist and her braid half undone.
I am thirty-seven years old, and I have played nine seasons of professional hockey across three clubs.
I have never once had anything I wanted given to me on a plate.
"Take your pants off," she said.
I took them off.
My cock stood out hard against my stomach, and I had been hard for an hour, and I felt it in my teeth.
She looked at it for a long moment.
"You held back for me," she said.
"I did."
"That's why you're first up here."
She dropped the sweater and came to me and put both hands flat on my chest.
She was small against me, five foot seven to my six one, and her hands were rough from the ice.
She slid them down over my ribs, and down my left side.
They stopped at the scar.
It is six inches long and white, low on my left side, over the hip, from the surgery I had at twenty-six.
Most women had asked, and I had told most of them a lie about a skiing accident.
Katja said nothing.
She ran her thumb along it, gently, from one end to the other.
"What is it?" she said.
"Cancer," I said. "A long time ago. It's gone."
"Abram."
"I was twenty-six. They took one, and the chemo did the rest, and a doctor in a clinic with a clipboard told me I would never father a child."
