Chapter 21: The Second Night

He shut the door from the inside, and the latch clicked.

He stayed against it with his hands flat on the wood behind him.

"You decide," he said, and his voice was rough. "Everything. I'll do what you say."

"I know you will."

I crossed the room slowly, because I could.

I took the grey coat by the lapels and pushed it off his shoulders, and it fell on the floor of my apartment.

Under it he wore a plain white shirt, the sleeves rolled, the way he always had.

I put my palms on his chest.

His heart was going hard enough that I felt it in my wrists.

"You don't move until I tell you."

"Yes."

"Look at me."

"I am."

"Don't stop."

I kissed him.

It was not the kiss from the guest room.

That one had been a night we stole.

This one I took, slowly, with my hands in his hair and my whole weight against him, until he made a low sound in his throat and his head tipped back against the door.

He kept his hands at his sides.

I could see what it cost him, the cords standing in his forearms, his fingers curled into his palms.

"Good," I said against his mouth.

He shuddered.

I undid his shirt one button at a time and watched his eyes follow my fingers.

I pushed it off his arms and let my mouth find the hollow of his throat, the hard line of his collarbone, the hot skin over his ribs.

He tasted of wine and salt.

"Linnea."

"I didn't say you could talk."

A breath of laughter shook through him, and then a groan, because my teeth had found the muscle above his hip.

I unbuckled his belt.

I knelt on my own rug in my own sweater and drew his trousers down, and he stood there shaking and let me.

He was already hard, thick and flushed against his stomach, and I wrapped my hand around him and felt him jerk.

"God," he said.

"Quiet."

I took him in my mouth.

He swore, low and long, and his head hit the door.

I took him slowly at first, my tongue flat along the underside, my hand working the base.

His hips tried to move, and I looked up, and he went still with a visible effort.
