Chapter 15: The Mortal Village

"I'm going back to the Fort," Han said.

"No."

"Qin Shu is twenty-four years old. He has no idea how to hide from a marshal."

"He has followed you for six years," said Mo.

"A boy who can do that knows how to vanish."

Han stood in the little room above the net shed with his hands shaking.

It was a plain room, one cot, one tallow lamp, one window shuttered against the sea wind.

Below them, the old woman who owned the house had gone to bed.

Wen Qi had flown off into the dark to look for Qin Shu.

There was nothing left to do, and Han could not bear it.

Mo shut the door.

He turned the latch and leaned on it, wet black robe plastered to his chest, white hair dripping.

"Come here."

"I can't sit still."

"I'm not asking you to sit."

Han crossed the room in two steps, and Mo caught his wet face in both hands.

"You lost your seal, your armor, your Host and your rank in one night," Mo said.

"I'm going to take the rest off your shoulders for an hour. Let me."

"There's nothing to take."

"There's a lot," said Mo.

He kissed him.

It was slow, and deep, and Han's knees went.

Mo walked him backward until the cot hit the back of his legs, and sat him down on it.

Then he stripped him.

He did it one wet piece at a time, undershirt and trousers, with his eyes on Han's face the whole time, and Han let him.

Naked, shivering, Han sat on the cot while the tallow lamp threw gold on his skin.

Mo slipped off his own robe.

The scars showed in the lamplight, the old thin one on the left of his chest and the long pale lines on his forearms.

"Lie back," he said.

Han lay on the rough blanket.

"Quiet," Mo whispered. "She sleeps just below us."

"Then you be quiet."

"I'll try. You first."

He climbed onto the cot over Han's thighs, and sat there, heavy and warm, his cock rising hard against his stomach.
