Chapter 20: Khem's Table
Bua got Ton out of the room by saying he wanted his thief locked in his own quarters.
The guard believed it.
The palace was quiet and the corridors were long and their footsteps went ahead of them.
Bua's rooms were on the third floor with a window over the river.
There was a bed, a table, two chairs, and a chest.
Ton stood in the middle of the floor.
"Your sister will be in the west room," Bua said.
"Where's that?"
"Second floor, the other wing. There's a guard on the door."
"She's got a cough and she's in a room with a guard on the door."
"She's alive."
Ton sat down on the edge of the bed.
Bua went to the window and stood there.
Neither of them said anything for a while.
