Chapter 21: The Count
The sun came up over the Bitterroots at seven-ten.
By then the whole valley had gathered at the Moon Stone, Redfern and Creek and Hollow.
The loose ring had grown through the night as the news ran down the roads.
Nobody had gone home.
They stood in the pale light with their breath steaming, and the candles had burned out into stubs.
Torin sat on a folding chair that Dunne had carried up from Hester's truck.

"I nominate Dunne Gage."
"Seconded," said a voice from the Hollow.
I looked up.
It was the tall woman with the braid, the one who had said I was your aunt.
"Seconded," said another.
"Seconded," said a third.
A murmur swelled and rolled, and then, from three directions at once, the ring answered.
