Chapter 6: Say Sorry

Celia ran down the rock with both arms out and threw herself at Demi.

"I was so scared!" she sobbed into Demi's shoulder. "I watched the stream all night. Are you hurt? Are you cold?"

Demi stood still and let her cling.

Behind them, a dozen cameras turned to find the reunion.

"You look thin," Celia said, pulling back with wet eyes. "I brought you a sweater. And chocolate. And I am so sorry about the pack."

"The pack?"

"They told me it was spoiled. I packed it with my own hands, I swear it. Someone must have switched it at the helipad."

She wiped her nose.

She hummed four notes, very softly, and stopped.

Demi looked at her without blinking.

"Who would have had the chance?" she asked. "Only the helipad crew. They all work for Pellham Talent."

Celia's smile did not move.

"I am sure it was a mistake."

"I am sure it was too."

Celia squeezed her hands.

"Come and see Dean," she said. "He is not well. Please, Demi. For me."

Dean lay on a sleeping bag in the blue tent with his jacket off and his face shining with sweat.

His bandaged hand was swollen to twice its size, and red lines ran up his wrist.

Bruce knelt beside him with a water bottle, looking helpless.

"He has been shaking since four," Bruce said. "He will not drink anything."

"I am drinking nothing out of that bottle," Dean mumbled. "It tastes like metal."

"It is boiled," Bruce said.

"It is poison."

"It is spring water you refused to boil yesterday," Demi said from the tent flap. "You drank it from the hole while your camera was rolling, and you told your crew boiling was for weak people."
