Chapter 20: Twenty-Five
Blaise stood up off the crate.
The foreman stepped in front of me.
"Get out," Blaise said to him.
His wolf came up behind his eyes, and the foreman's shoulders bent.
"Go," I told the foreman. "Get the row ready. I'll be up."
He looked at me.
Then he went, fast, splashing back up the tunnel with the lamp.
It left the one lantern on the wheel, and Blaise, and me.
"Father said you'd come for the wheel," he said. "I said you'd come for me."
"I came for the chain."
He touched the key on its cord.
"This chain?"
"Do you know what you cost us?" he said softly.
"The wagon came this full moon and Father had nothing to put in it. Corran stole every crate."
"Corran gave them back."
"To you." He laughed. "To the Emperor's whore."
He took my left arm.
Fingers into the soft place above the elbow, the way he always had.
He walked me across the cut to a low iron door set into the rock.
He kicked it open.
The cup store.
A stone room with shelves to the roof.
