The cemetery was white with frost at six on Saturday morning.
The same hill, the same rows, and the granite angel with a chipped wing.
Nico walked ahead of us up the path, with a bunch of grocery-store carnations in his fist.
Bianca held my hand and swung it.
Santo came last, with a butterfly bandage over his eyebrow.
He kept his hands in his pockets.
We passed the new mound, and the flowers on it had gone brown at the edges.
Nico stopped there first.
"Papa," he said, and put one carnation on the dirt.
"Hi, Papa," said Bianca. "We got the bad man."
"Bianca," I said.
"We did." She looked up at me, outraged. "Nonna said."
"We did," I said.
Nico straightened his blazer, the way Aurelio used to straighten his coat before he walked into a room.
"I know who you are now," he said to the grave. "I know what you did. You went to every concert."
