Chapter 12: The Guest Badge

Celia watched until Miles stopped turning me around the floor.

I kept my hand on his shoulder a little longer.

"Breakfast?" he asked me.

"Are you offering food or more family advice?" I asked.

"Food," Miles said.

"I think I've supplied all the advice I'm qualified for."

I smiled and agreed to meet him downstairs.

He kissed my cheek before I went up to bed.

At breakfast, Celia had put my coordinator badge beside my plate.

I turned it over and found a fresh pin on the back.

She'd fetched it from my bedside drawer.

I felt more angry about the opened drawer than the badge.

"You've been in my room," I told her.

Celia looked at Miles, who was sitting opposite me.

"The housekeeper let me in," she said.

"That's not an explanation," I told her.

She moved a small stack of breakfast menus across the table.

"The bride's family needs to be identifiable today," she said.

Miles picked up his ASSISTANT badge from the stack beside her.

"You've found a better pin," he told her.

"Are we being promoted?"

I put my badge inside the butter dish.

Celia took it out before the waiter could see.

"I'll change the label if it bothers you," she said.

"I don't want a label," I told her.

Pippa and Finlay arrived with plates of toast.
