The interviews aired on Wednesday evening, and by Thursday morning Wesley could recite Gavin's sentence from memory.
He did it in my doorway, holding a printed list.
"'I asked her to apologize for me, and I shouldn't have,'" he said. "Somebody has made it a ringtone."
Miles had stayed to make coffee after bringing over bread.
He put a mug beside me and kissed the top of my head.
Wesley held up his phone.
It showed the forty fans from the courtyard in their white shirts.
Their signs now said WE GOT IT WRONG CORA.
The man from the back row had stuck a strip of tape to his forehead that said SORRY.
"I didn't ask them to," I said.
"They did it themselves," Wesley said. "They'd like to meet you."
"Tell them thank you," I said. "And that they don't have to keep standing outside."
Wesley glanced at the toast, then back at his list.
"We have momentum," he said.
