Chapter 24: The Right Boy
In February, Do-hyun carried his last box up from the car himself.
It held two pairs of jeans, a cracked lamp, a kettle, and eleven economics textbooks.
Snow lay on the terrace of the penthouse.
Beom-su held the lift door open with one shoulder and said nothing, as he had said nothing for three weekends of boxes.
His face was perfectly solemn.
In the pocket of his grey suit was a paper bag of rice cakes, and he put one in Do-hyun's hand as he passed.
"You're moving in," Beom-su said.
"I've been living here since October."
"On paper, sir. Now you have a lease," Beom-su said.
"I don't have a lease."
"You have a key," Beom-su said, and the lift closed on his small, rare smile.
Do-hyun stood in the hall with the box on his hip.
The penthouse was warm and quiet.
Somebody had moved the long white sofa three metres to the left, so that it faced the river.
Somebody had put a second desk beside the first.
On the second desk sat a lamp, a stack of blank notebooks, and the crystal bowl.
It was full.
"What is this?" Do-hyun asked.
Woo-jin stood at the window with his hands in his pockets.
He wore a grey sweater and no tie, and his hair had grown a little.
The scar through his eyebrow was pale in the winter light.
"The room next to mine," he said. "It had a bed in it once. I've had it emptied."
"For what?"
"For you. For your books. For the days you want to be alone." He nodded at the desk. "The key with your name on it."
