He looked at the mounting block beneath his right boot.

His horse had stopped facing the wrong direction.

Caedrin rose from the wall and moved toward the reins.

Seravelle caught his sleeve before he reached the prince.

"He can turn around," she said.

Othriel smiled down at her with visible determination.

"I have ridden all morning to find you," he announced.

Its hired saddle bore the innkeeper's name in large brass letters.

Seravelle decided not to mention those letters yet.

"I told you I was leaving," she replied.

The prince beckoned sharply before resuming his smile.

"I arranged an appropriately gallant reunion," he said.

Caedrin let the reins hang loose within reach.

"Shall I turn the horse?" he asked.

"I am addressing the princess," Othriel said.

Caedrin stepped back, and the horse turned itself toward the cake shop.

Its movement put the mounting block directly behind the prince.

Two customers came outside to watch him attempt a backward dismount.
