Too Late, the Alpha Lost Me After Two Weeks' Notice novel · Chapter 24 of 24
Chapter 24: Saturday
Saturday morning, I woke up in my own bed, in my own flat, to the sound of water running.
The radiator knocked once.
The window over the street was grey with rain, and the bar of the iron headboard was cold against my shoulder.
Nobody had called.
Nobody would.
I lay there for a minute and listened to the best silence I had ever heard.
"Ebba," Cass said from the doorway.
He wore his jeans and no shirt.
The bite mark on his shoulder had faded to a yellow-green smudge, and he touched it.
"I ran you a bath," he said.
"You ran me a bath?"
"It's a very small tub. You'll have to share it."
I got out of bed and followed him into the bathroom.
It was a tiny room with a white enamel tub on feet, a slanted ceiling, and a window of frosted glass.
Steam hung in the air.
He had lit the candle from the hardware store on the edge of the sink.
The water smelled of lemon and of whatever soap he had found in the cupboard.
He held out his hand, and I took it and stepped in.
The water was hot enough to sting.
I sank down with a sigh, and he stepped in behind me, folding his long legs around mine, and the water slopped over the rim.
"I told you," he said. "It's small."
"It's perfect."
I leaned back against his chest.
His arms came around my ribs.
We lay there a long while with the rain on the window.
He picked up a cloth and wet it and began to wash my shoulders, slowly, in wide circles.
He washed down my arms, one at a time, and each of my fingers.
He washed my neck and the freckles on my collarbone.
