Chapter 11: The Room He Booked

Marin's POV

The elevator doors closed on the two of us.

Neither of us pushed a button for a full breath.

Then Elias reached past me and pressed twelve, and I pushed him back against the mirrored wall.

I kissed him hard.

He made a low sound in his chest, and his hands went into my hair.

The kiss in the studio doorway had been angry.

This one was slow and deliberate, and it went on until my knees went soft.

"Paycheck," I said against his mouth. "I know. I said it."

"You did."

"I'm overruling myself."

"Good." His mouth found my throat. "I was going to ask for an appeal."

The doors opened on a quiet hallway and thick carpet.

I took the key card out of my coat pocket.

My hand wasn't steady, so he covered it with his and slid the card through the reader himself.

The light turned green.

This was the room Troy had booked to get me out of the way.

It was enormous, with a bed wide enough for four people and a window full of the city.

"He paid for this," I said.

"He did."

"Every night of it."

Elias turned me around by the shoulders, and his voice dropped.

"Then let's make sure he gets his money's worth."

The door shut behind us.

I pulled the coat off my shoulders and let it fall.

Underneath I wore only a long black sleep shirt that came to my thighs.

He looked at me for a long second, and his breath went out of him.

"Marin."

"Take your sweater off."

He pulled it over his head in one move and dropped it.

His chest was broad and hard, with gray in the hair across it, and a long pale scar ran along his ribs.
