The press conference was at two.

Hanbit had booked a hotel ballroom for the film's cast announcement.

A hundred reporters waited under a stage lit like an operating theater.

Tae-oh stood beside Ye-won in the wings in a charcoal suit.

"We can cancel," he said. "I can say you're ill."

"No."

"Ye-won."

"If I hide, they'll chew on it for a month." She smoothed her jacket. "I'd rather feed it to them myself."

"You don't have to do anything. You only have to stand next to me."

"I don't stand next to people. I direct them."

He gave a short, startled laugh.

They walked out.

The flashbulbs hit.

The director said a few words, and Ji-seon said a few more.

Then the moderator pointed a microphone at Tae-oh and asked how the film was going.

He said it was going well.

Then a reporter in the third row stood up.

"Ms. Rho. Your debt of sixty-two million won was reported this morning. Do you plan to use this relationship to pay it off?"

The ballroom went silent.

Ye-won felt Tae-oh go rigid beside her.

She put two fingers on her breastbone, very lightly, where he could see.

He breathed out.

She took the microphone.

"Thank you for asking," she said. "It's sixty-two million won, and I know the number because I wrote every payment into a notebook."
