Chris read the email a third time, and the words did not change.
Reported by: a concerned student.
Bradford had signed it.
When the bell rang, Chris walked out before Leander could reach him.
Leander caught up on the stairs and fell into step beside him.
"Show me," he said.
Chris handed over the phone.
Leander read it, and his jaw went tight.
"I'll go to the dean right now," he said.
"And say what?"
"That the loft is Ashgrove property and I gave you the key."
"You didn't give me the key."
"Then I'll say I did."
"No."
"Chris."
"You've lied for me once already, and it cost me a bed I can't go back to."
Leander stopped on the landing.
"That's not fair."
"It's true."
"It's not fair, and it's true," Leander said, and his voice shook with anger at somebody else.
