At nine on Monday, Molly sat behind her husband in a green dress and kept her face still.

Troy sat in front of her with his hands flat on his knees.

Across the aisle, Judith Wainright wore navy again, with Dane and Greta in the row behind her.

Giselle sat at her aunt's side in the same gray dress.

"Ms. Wainright's counsel," the judge said. "The full video, as I ordered."

"Delivered to the clerk, Your Honor." The lawyer stood. "We would now like to call Miss Giselle Wainright for a sworn statement."

Troy's shoulders went tight.

Giselle took the stand and the oath.

She opened a folded sheet and read from it in a flat voice.

"I am the niece of Judith Wainright and the sister of Celia Wainright. I have known Troy Falk for twelve years. In that time I have seen him use force against me, and I have seen him enter a child's room by night."

She looked up.

"I have seen the child bend a steel rail with one hand."

A noise went through the court.

"I believe my great-niece has her father's strength. I believe she should not live where it goes unwatched."

She folded the sheet.

Celia's lawyer rose.

"Miss Wainright, last week you opened a service door for Mr. Falk and Ms. Wainright. Yes or no?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"My aunt told me to."

Judith's hand moved on the table.

"She wanted to see if the child had it," Giselle said. "She wanted a witness who could say she'd seen it. That was me."

The judge leaned forward.

"Miss Wainright, is that statement true?"

"Every word is true, Your Honor. I have not said the rest."
