After My Alpha Drugged Me for Ten Years novel · Chapter 11 of 24

Chapter 11: The Wrong Hand

The light didn't fade.

It climbed my throat and spread across my collarbone in lines of gold, and it was warm.

For ten years that mark had been the coldest part of me.

Now it burned.

Rowan's hand stayed on my neck, and I felt him shaking.

"Hazel," he said, so low only I could hear. "Is that"

"Don't take your hand away," I said.

"I won't."

Around us, the torches hissed in the wind.

Nobody spoke.

It was the gray-braided Alpha who broke the silence.

"A true mark answers its true mate," she said, in the flat voice of someone reading a statute. "That is the Accord."

She turned her head and looked at Ramsay.

"It did not answer you."

Ramsay's face was white and wet with sweat.

"The bond was strained," he said. "A moment of"

"It was cold for ten years under your hand," she said. "It lit the moment this man touched it. Whose mark is it, Thackeray?"

"Mine," said Ramsay. "I gave it. It was witnessed."

"Who witnessed it?"

He said nothing.

I looked at the Chair.

He had his hand pressed flat on the gavel and was looking at no one.

"Recess," he said hoarsely. "The Council will withdraw. This is, this is an irregularity. We will resume at first light."

The Alphas began to talk all at once, and the ring broke into knots of torchlight and raised voices.

Ramsay moved so fast I never saw him come.

His fingers locked on my arm above the elbow, and he swung me around, and we were out of the torchlight in two steps and behind the tallest of the standing stones.
