Chapter 13: The Bank
Scott read the filing standing in the dark bedroom, with the phone lighting his face from below.
I read it over his arm.
Reginald and Delilah asked the court for sole legal and physical custody of Jamie Tolland.
They asked for an immediate order keeping Brynn MacAleese away from the child.
A judge had signed a temporary version of it at midnight, and it was already in force.
I was not allowed to be alone with my son.
I was not allowed within a hundred feet of Delilah.
"Alone," Scott said. "That's the word they could get."
"What does it mean?"
"It means supervised. And I'm his father, so I supervise." He pulled on his jeans. "They wanted you banned outright, and the judge wouldn't give it to them."
He called his lawyer while he buttoned his shirt.
"File it," he said. "All of it. Divorce, and the petition naming Brynn as his mother. Now, before they open."
I sat down on the edge of the bed.
