Marge got me into the sound booth with a pie.
She had fed the man who ran it for nineteen years, and he took the foil off the plate and looked at my face and said, "Which button?"
"The box microphone. And the main board."
"That's not allowed."
"I know."
He pushed the headset off his ear.
"Mrs. Ulrich's cherry says it's allowed."
It was the bottom of the seventh and the Herons led by one.
The stadium was full, fifty thousand people in the lights.
I took the service stairs two at a time to the owners' level, past the suite I'd mopped a month ago.
The white-haired minority owner had left the door of the big glass room unlatched, as she'd promised.
Inside were twelve people in nice clothes with drinks in their hands.
Reginald stood at the center window with his back to the door and his gold pin gleaming.
