Chapter 7: After Hours

The door was unlocked, as he'd said.

I stood in the empty corridor outside it for a full minute with my heart trying to leave my body.

Then I went in and shut it behind me.

Geoffrey stood at the window with his back to me and his jacket off.

The desk lamp was the only light.

"You came," he said, without turning around.

"You said it would stay unlocked."

"I did."

"That's a terrible plan. Anyone could have walked in."

"Not anyone." He turned. "You."

He crossed the room, reaching past me to turn the lock.

He stopped close enough that I felt the heat coming off his shirt, and he didn't touch me.

"The rule ended at nine," he said. "Tell me what you want."

"Is that on the syllabus?"

"No," he said. "I'm making it up."

I laughed, and the laugh broke in the middle, and then I had both hands in his shirt and his mouth was on mine.

He kissed, slow and sure and without apology.

His hand slid into my hair and tilted my head, and his tongue opened my mouth, and I heard myself make a sound I'd never made for Brandon.

He backed me against the desk.

Papers slid off it and he didn't look.

"The terms," I said, against his mouth. "When Brandon's gone, we stop."

"Brandon's down the hall."

"Brandon isn't gone."

"Then we haven't stopped," Geoffrey said, and he lifted me onto the desk.

My knees opened around his hips.
